Overview:
In this semester long project, VCU has never had a football team which what the students have been asking for. It gives you the nostalgic feel of being in high school and going to a game Friday night. Now in Richmond you just have to sit at home and watch other NCAA teams play. I looked into designs on the school having a team but at the same time I learned that we ere once a school named Richmond Professional Institute (RPI). I went to make designs for a throwback uniform and wanted to bring the physical piece to life.
Initial Draft:
At the beginning is how could the team look closely to the schools current color way. I wanted to have 4 concepts for the first season. These were a good start but doing some research and interviewing the creative director of VCU Athletics, he was talking about how no one has went back as to making a design when the school was RPI.
Final Revision:
Once understanding the history and looking back on the old school we had, it would be fitting for our first season to have a throwback jersey of RPI. Thats a nostalgic feel not just for the students but for the alumni that always wanted to see a football team. After incorporating design it was important that a physical jersey was made to provide a better detail.
Final Jersey:
The final jersey was custom-made online through sports gear swag and the patches were custom embodied by a local company in Richmond Crewel and Unusual . What stood out for me was instead of a last name, the jersey in the back would have the RPI School logo in black and white signifying that the whole team in one school together. This polyester jersey can be worn for in game and as fan gear.
